Tiny 10-Pound Dog Saves Brother from Coyote Attack
In a remarkable display of bravery and loyalty, a small 10-pound dog emerged as a hero by fearlessly confronting a wild coyote to protect his brother. Vinny, an 11-year-old Maltese rescue with only three teeth, defied his size and proved himself to be a valiant fighter, earning the admiration of his owners and the community.
Owners David Mascaluso and his family from Mission Viejo, California, describe Vinny as a spirited dog who has always possessed a feisty nature. Recalling the day they brought Vinny home, David shared how the little dog growled at him when he tried to pet him, showcasing his tenacious spirit.
Vinny’s moment of heroism unfolded when the family accidentally left the doggy door open, allowing their puppy brother, Harley, to wander into the backyard. Startled by a noise, Harley encountered two wild coyotes, finding himself in immediate danger as they seized him by the neck.
Upon hearing Harley’s distressed cries, Vinny sprang into action without hesitation. He dashed into the yard, chasing off the coyotes with an unexpected display of courage and determination. Despite his age and diminutive size, Vinny’s ferocity intimidated the intruders, leading them to retreat.
David expressed his amazement at the incredible feat, stating, “A little 10-pound, three-tooth dog, 11 years old, chased off a 60-pound coyote.” Vinny’s heroic act earned him the title of the family’s “little hero” and their immense gratitude.
Harley suffered some lacerations from the encounter, underscoring the crucial timing of Vinny’s intervention. Fortunately, Harley is now recovering well, thanks to the timely protection provided by his brave canine sibling.
The Macalusos plan to honor Vinny’s valor by finding a suitable reward. While a steak may not be fitting for his dental situation, they are considering getting him a cape to commemorate his status as their “superhero” dog.
Reflecting on Vinny’s exceptional courage, David emphasized his fearlessness, stating, “Vinny’s a superhero. He’s always been a scrapper. He’s just not afraid of anything.”
