In 2012 my husband and I bought our first house and decided we wanted a kitten to add to our cat family of two. We found one online that we liked at a rescue organization and went to the foster mom's house to meet him.
As we were there, she took us around to meet the other cats she was fostering. She had just rescued this one, his name was Thor at the time, and I no sooner sat down on the floor to greet him and he crawled into my lap and stayed put. The foster mom told me his story, saying that he had been in the shelter for 40 days when they rescued him and that prior to that he had been abandoned when his owners left their house behind, leaving him as well.
We went through the house to meet the kitten we went there to meet but I couldn't stop thinking about Thor. I even left the kittens to go back in that room to spend time with him. Later when my husband and I had a moment to talk over what we wanted to do, we didn't even need to exchange words. I told the foster mom that we'd like to take the kitten home but we also hoped to take Thor home as well.
The look on her face was pure joy as she was so happy to see that someone was going to take a chance on him. They couldn't really figure out how old he was but I didn't care. That boy was meant to come home with me.
At first, it was hard with him as he was scared of everything and the littlest noise would send him running. Now, he's the biggest cuddler in the world and has quite the loud purr. He's definitely earned his name of Teddy Bear and though we still don't know his age, I will always take a chance on older cats now because he is my best friend in kitty form and the best snuggle pal anyone could ever hope for.
