We found Cagney through an online ad offering him for adoption. He was a senior cat, the family was moving, and they wanted to only keep their new puppy. It made us angry, so we decided to take Cagney in - he needed a home.

They said he was anti-social and slept a lot. The family had shaved several places of his coat because it was matted. We took him to the Vet the next day. He was about 9 lbs overweight. He had so much plaque built up on his teeth that they were loose, and he was in pain. His teeth were cleaned two days later (he lost five teeth in the process).

Within two weeks, he was grooming, playing with toys, and became very talkative. No wonder he was sleeping a lot, was anti-social, and wouldn't groom - his mouth hurt so much! In 4 months we got him down to only 2 lbs overweight, and the Vet was pleased. For the next year, he slept at night in the crook of my left arm in our bed. He would come to the family room to tell us it was time to go to bed if we were up later than usual.

Cagney's kidneys were failing. For the last 6 months of his life I gave him daily subcutaneous fluids in an attempt to help his kidneys. He also developed cancer in the kidneys. We noticed for a couple of days he couldn't seem to get comfortable no matter where he sat or layed. The morning of the third day he couldn't make it to the litter box. He left us later that morning at the Vet's office surrounded by his family.

I miss Cagney. We took him in when he needed a loving, caring family. What I didn't realize was how much I needed him. Rest in Peace, Cags.
